How we make money
One revenue source, stated in full. It does not change what you pay for a plan.
HealthPlanIndex is free to read and carries no advertising. It is paid for in one way, and this page explains it in full.
The arrangement
The phone number on this site connects you to Clearline Health Insurance, a licensed insurance agency operating under National Producer Number 19024830. HealthPlanIndex receives a payment for connecting you to them.
Three things follow from that, and all three are worth stating plainly:
- It costs you nothing. Marketplace plan prices are set by the insurer and filed with regulators. They are identical whether you enroll through an agent, through HealthCare.gov yourself, or through a Navigator. There is no version of a plan that costs more because you used a phone number.
- We are paid for the connection, not the outcome.
- You never have to call. HealthCare.gov is free, official, and linked throughout this site. We would rather you got covered there than not at all.
Why a site can be free and still be worth reading
The honest risk in this arrangement is obvious: a site paid per call has an incentive to make you call, including by being vague enough that you have to.
We have tried to build against that. The pages answer the question. The subsidy tables are on the page, not behind a form. The county figures are published rather than teased. If you read a page here and conclude you do not need to phone anyone, the page worked.
What we are not paid for
- Not paid by insurers. No insurance company pays us anything, and none has any input into what appears here.
- No advertising. No display ads, no sponsored posts, no affiliate links.
- No data sales. There is no form on this site. We collect no contact details, so we have none to sell.
- No paid placement. We do not rank insurers, so there is no position to sell.
What happens when you call
You reach Clearline Health Insurance, not HealthPlanIndex. They are licensed to discuss plans, quote them and enroll you; we are not. Their agents are paid commission by insurers, which is standard across the industry and built into the premium whether or not you use an agent.
Lines are open 9am – 6pm, Monday through Friday, Eastern time. Closed Saturdays and Sundays.
Verifying who you are talking to
You do not have to take our word for any of this. See licensing for how to look the agency up in the official national database.
