The dataset behind this site
1,817 counties, 27 columns, CC BY. The county-level marketplace table that federal files contain but do not publish.
Everything on this site is built from one table, and you can have it. It holds the uninsured population by income band — including the 138–400% range a premium tax credit reaches — for 3,143 counties across all 51 states and DC, joined to marketplace insurer and plan counts for the 1,817 counties where CMS publishes them.
Marketplace columns are left empty, not zero, for counties in state-run marketplaces: CMS does not publish those figures, and a zero would claim no insurers sell there.

Why it did not already exist
All of these figures are federal and public. What is not public is the join: CMS publishes insurer and plan counts inside its Open Enrollment public use files, the Census Bureau publishes county uninsured estimates separately, and nobody publishes them together at county level with the derived measures that make counties comparable to each other.
How many insurers sell where you live is the single fact that most determines what you are offered, and it is the hardest one to look up. That is the gap this fills.

Nothing is adjusted, smoothed or imputed. Counties missing any field are excluded rather than estimated — 35 of them.
What is wrong with it
Stated here rather than discovered later:
- The uninsured figures are modeled estimates, not counts, with wider error in small counties.
- Plan selections are counted at the enrollee's address at enrollment against a modeled annual population. In two very small Texas counties that produces more selections than modeled residents. Both are flagged in the file.
- Insurer counts are a snapshot of the plan year as filed.
- These are marketplace figures only — nothing about employer coverage, Medicaid or Medicare.
